Why you need your beauty sleep

Some of you asked me if I could write a post about how to be more motivated to go to bed early/get enough sleep. Well, I’m probably not the best example of this, I can stay up quite late some days, but after some research, I’m more motivated to go to bed early and get my beauty sleep!

They call it beauty sleep for a reason: If you haven’t slept, you’ll look more tired and less attractive. A side effect of sleep debt is that it ages the skin more rapidly. When you sleep, antioxidant repair of the skin occurs, which might reduce your risk of developing skin cancer.

Lack of sleep also increases your stress level, suppresses your immune system, and interferes with memory and learning. Researchers say that the ideal amount of sleep is seven hours a night, but this can be very individual, I usually need nine hours(!) to be completely rested while others only need six.

People who sleep less than 6 hours per night are also more likely to be overweight; sleep deprivation stimulates appetite because it decreases the level of leptin (the “feel full” hormone) while increasing the level of ghrelin (the “feel hungry” hormone).

And last but not least; people who routinely sleep well are more likely to feel better about life and about themselves as well as sleep can boost brain power!

I hope this made you more motivated to get your beauty sleep and go to sleep earlier. It sure did motivate me!
