Beware of Oro Gold Cosmetics

by Hanne on April 28, 2013

On Friday, I had some time to kill between castings and found myself walking around in the Covent Garden area. Passing by a luxurious looking shop called Oro Gold a metrosexual looking guy with a hard Israeli accent stopped me to offer me a sample. He then somehow engaged me and brought me into the shop where he supposedly would show me something crazy.

He had me sit down and started applying some sort of gold scrub on my hand, waited about 30-40 seconds, then rubbed off taking a lot of my dead skin with it. Or so it seemed to be, I found out afterwards they use an ingredient called PVA in this specific peel that is almost like glue, and what happens when you put glue on your skin and let it dry? Give it a try and then rub it off, it looks very much like skin! Afterwards he held my two hands together saying, can you see the difference? Umm, no not really I was thinking. He then started putting on some other products talking about how amazing and beneficial they were and that they were made of 24k gold. He started asking lots of questions, about which products I used on a daily basis, how much I spent on beauty products a month, how long my creams lasted etc.

He also showed me the “luxurious” packaging of the products, showing me where I could find the ingredients list so that I could have a look, but as soon as I started studying it he snapped the packaging out of my hands and started talking about something else. He always kept on complimenting me on how beautiful skin I had. He started talking more and more, until it felt like my ears were bleeding! He asked me which of the three products he had used on me was my favorite, I told him I didn’t have one. But he kept nagging, forcing me to choose one so I just said the gold scrub to make him stop. He then started throwing figures in the hundreds of pounds and kept making different combinations of products and offering them to me at different prices (I would get three products for the price of two etc), throwing in extras etc. I told him that he was a very convincing salesman but that I would not buy anything from him, he was then very offended telling me he was not a salesman, but a promoter (HUGE difference apparently). He claimed that he had been working for the big brands like Chanel, La Prairie, Creme de la Mer etc (not so sure about that!) and that Oro Gold was by far the best product out there and the”real deal”. He also told me that their policy was to not advertise so that they could sell their products for a cheaper price.

I told him again that his products seemed good but that I would not buy anything from him. He then became even more aggressive  started asking why I didn’t want to buy anything from him, if it was a matter of price. I told him yes, I would never buy products for hundreds of pounds without doing research first and trying samples. He then started throwing in even more products that I would get included in the price he had already offered me, stating that he was not making anything out of the sale now, and that he only gave me this “amazing” offer because he liked me and wanted me to use their products. I told him NO one final time and that I would not buy anything from him, I told him I would try the sample he gave me, then see. I stood up and started to leave the shop before he  could make my ears bleed even more, on the street just outside the shop a man dressed in suit – looking like the shop manager – starting shouting after me, wanting to know why I was leaving so soon (had probably spent 20 minutes in the shop). I just kept going, I had already had enough of these rude, aggressive people. From now on I’ll walk on the other side of the street every time I cross that Oro Gold shop!

I have to say, I totally understand how people are not able to say no to these people and their sale tactics. Even though I wasn’t interested in the products and knew it was a scam it was hard to say no. After I came home I started googling Oro Gold (read the complaints here) and found the products for a fraction of the price on sites like amazon. I also read about the aggressive sale tactics at other shops around the world (they all seem to have the same tactics), and that the sales associates tell customer they can return the products, but the recepts are stamped to say “no returns / all sales are final”!

Even if the Oro Gold products work well, my advice would be not to buy these products. A company that intimidates customers and lies to them should not be rewarded!

New on the bathroom shelf

by Hanne on April 23, 2013

Hey beauties! After a long day with lots of castings around London I finally have time to drop a few lines for you. I have some new additions on my bathroom shelf that I wanted to show to you guys! :)

Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish
This was one of my favorite cleansers last year as many of you probably remember. However, as they don’t sell it in Norway or Germany I never bothered to repurchase. When I dropped by at Boots the other day and saw the Liz Earle products I remembered how much I loved using it and knew I had to get one. This is a very refreshing and purifying cleanser that is suitable for my sensitive skin and eyes. Read my full review here.

Korres Body Milk Fig
I think this must be my new favorite body milk, I absolutely adore the scent and can’t stop using it! This body milk is moisturizing but definitely better suited for summer or for those living in a warm country. The texture is perfect, not too runny and not too thick. I know for sure I’ll be using this a lot during the next months.

Lush Lip Scrub Popcorn
I went to check out a Lush shop between castings today and ended up buying the popcorn lip scrub which I’ve been meaning to buy for such a long time now. I haven’t got to try it yet but I love the natural ingredients and I’m sure I’ll enjoy the fact that it’s edible because depending on where I am at it might be easier to just lick my lips clean! An update will come. :)

Made From Earth Vitamin C Moisturizer & Three Berry Face Serum
I’ve started to use more and more products with natural ingredients lately and these two are no exceptions. The Vitamin C Moisturizer is said to contain the highest possible concentration of Vitamin C in a skin care product. It is definitely a very moisturizing cream and I’ve used it both in the morning and evening. The Three Berry Face Serum smells amazing and I love using it. The serum is said to neutralize environmental damage which is exactly what I need right now. I’ve been using it under my makeup and it keeps my skin moisturized. Full review on these two products will come in a while.

Are you familiar with any of the products mentioned above? What’s your newest beauty additions?

Manasi Makeup Lyster Cream Bronzer

by Hanne on April 14, 2013

To me, there is nothing like a sunkissed, glowing look, but as we all know the sun can be very harmful for your skin, that is probably why I love bronzers so much. I have plenty of different bronzers and recently I’ve discovered this cream bronzer from a new Swedish makeup brand called Manasi Makeup.

This cream bronzer gives a beautiful glowing tan to your skin as well as a slight coverage. I usually put a tiny bit of product on my cheekbones, nose tip and temples and it gives me a natural sunkissed look. I’ve actually got lots of compliments about my tan the last couple of days and while I think the Brazilian sun is the main reason for that I also think this bronzer should get some credit for it.  It’s very concentrated so I only need a tiny bit, the jar is quite big as well so I think it’s safe to say this will last a very long time. It also has slight scent of vanilla and tangerine which is lovely without being overpowering at all.

The product looks quite dark in the jar but it comes it much lighter as you can tell on the pictures below.

Another thing I love about this product is that it is water resistant which makes it perfect for the beach. It is also free of parabens and mineral oil.

All in all, I love this cream bronzer and would definitely recommend it for all skin types and skin tones.

Glossy Box finally in Norway

by Hanne on April 12, 2013

Yesterday I was surprised by a man dressed in suit knocking on my door with the premiere Norwegian GlossyBox, champagne and white roses! I have to say I felt quite undressed next to this dressed up guy as I had barely just woke up and looked exhausted. It has been some stressful days, I arrived back in Oslo late last night after 24 hours in Hamburg and I think all the travelling and stress has made me get a cold… I must say, it is extra nice to receive something like this on the door when you are feeling down!

Most of you probably know GlossyBox already, and finally we have it in Norway too! For those of you who have no idea what I’m talking about; GlossyBox is a monthly beauty subscription service, which delivers 5 beauty samples wrapped in a beautiful box straight to your door.

Here are the products from the Norwegian premiere box, a short review will come soon. I absolutely love the concept of beauty boxes! What about you guys? Do you subscribe to GlossyBox or other beauty boxes? :)

Caudalie Gentle Buffing Cream

by Hanne on April 10, 2013

Most scrubs are too harsh for my skin and I haven’t been using one for a very long time, until I found this buffing cream from Caudalie! It’s really a face scrub like no other I’ve tried, actually calling it a “scrub” feels wrong because it really does feels like a cream that gently buffs the skin without scrubbing or scratching.

The formula of this buffing cream is rich and creamy with small densely packed microbeads, you’ll find jojoba oil, grape seed oil and honey featured high up in the ingredients list. The microbeads are tiny and doesn’t feel scratchy or irritating on the skin. You only need a small amount of product to cover your whole face.

For me, the Caudalie Buffing Cream works best with about a minute’s worth of gentle circular motions all over the face. I usually use it in the shower, or right after a shower. After use my face feels smooth and calm, my skin looks and feels noticeable softer and looks radiant. Any dry flaky patches are gone. Also, my moisturizers or masks go on much better and absorbs faster.

I really love this product and it has become a staple in my skin care routine. You can find the Gentle Buffing Cream here.
