La Roche-Posay Physiological Micellar Solution

by Hanne on June 28, 2012

When I was in Brussels a few weeks ago I decided to try the Physiological Micellar Solution water from La Roche-Posay. I couldn’t find my usual micellar water from Bioderma so I decided to try this one instead.
This micellar water comes in a tall, cylindrical, plastic bottle with a convenient flip-top cap. The packaging is plastic, but I’d say it looks relatively sleek on the counter.

I really like this product, it has a very gentle formula which removes make-up, including mascara, very effectively. It doesn’t irritate my sensitive skin and (extremely sensitive) eyes and isn’t drying. The cleanser is scented and has a very nice smell, almost like bubblegum, without being overpowering. It cleanses my skin really well and makes it feel clean and refreshed. Depending on how much makeup you’ve got on, you might need to cleanse twice, but the formula is so gentle that it will not dry out or irritate your skin. In the evening I use 2 cotton pads to clean my makeup, in the morning just 1. I also like using it as a toner after cleansing with my regular cleanser. As you can probably tell I’ve used almost half the bottle already – in just 3-4 weeks. However I think the guilty ones are my thick cotton pads, they tend to absorb much more product than thinner ones (which I normally use).

This is definitely a good alternative to Bioderma Crealine H2O, however in my opinion the La Roche-Posay version leaves a slightly sticky feeling on my skin while the Bioderma doesn’t.

Are you familiar with this product? What is your favorite micellar water?

I thought about trying it a while ago but decided to buy the Avene Micellar one instead and it’s really good! I also have the Bioderma but I almost like the Avene one better. But it’s more expensive considering that you only get 200 ml.

Yes that’s true, especially when you buy Bioderma 500ml x2 it’s really a bargain! I’ll check out Avene’s micellar water, thank you for the tips ;)

You should try Vichy’s Micellar Solution it melts off make-up and leaves no residue behind!

Thank you for writing in comparison to bioderma! i use bioderma but have been a big time fan of la roche posay’s effaclar line, so i’ve always been curious.

I like to use those cloth paper towels with my makeup remover. They’re durable but thin so they soak up less product. I keep a roll of Viva paper towels under my bathroom sink. The “choose-a-size” roll is perfect because it offers the smaller sheets that are just the right size for the eyes and face. I know what you’re thinking…paper towels?! But the cloth ones are super soft and gentle on the skin. Use them to dry your face too and you’ll save your newly clean skin from the bacteria on that reusable towel. Just a tip! :) XO

Hello! I don’t know if you’ve ever tried the cleansing oil from Shu Uemura. I also have sensitive skin and it is my holy grail in cleansing oil. I use the green one and it literally changed my life. no more breakouts or pimples and it cleans everything even the toughest mascaras and eyeliners, and a bottle last a long way. It doesn’t need any cotton either, just apply a little quantity to the face, wet your hands then massage the face a little bit, then wash it off with water. I really love it!- I’ll stop gushing now- but I strongly reccomend it :) <3
