Besides its beautiful illuminating look inside the packaging, a highlighter is a great way to brighten up your appearance and give you a natural glow. I’ve been a total highlighter junkie the last year and I really think it gives your makeup that extra something that you will love. So, I went through my makeup collection and gathered up 4 highlighters that I use constantly, and love.
How I apply it:
I always highlight the tops of my cheeks bones, right above the apples of my cheeks and just down and under the eye slightly. I also highlight down the bridge of my nose to make it appear thinner, the cupids bow to make my lips appear fuller, my brow bone to exccentuate my eyebrows. :)
MAC Mineralize Skinfinish – Soft and Gentle
I bought this product more than a year ago and it has become a staple in my makeup collection. I’ve been using it a lot, still there’s so much left, I think it might last forever. The MAC — is very soft and gives a natural glow, it’s an shimmery bronze/golden color with a hint of soft pink and peachy undertones. I really like this soft champagne color and I feel it would suit a variety of skin tones. I want my highlighters to give me a nice glow and I definitely achieve that with this highlighter. I use this to highlight my cheekbones and sometimes other areas of my face such as my cupid’s bow, brow bone, or as an inner corner highlight.
Make Up For Ever Uplight #12
This is a nice highlighter to have, but I won’t repurchase. I do like it a lot, for its pigmentation and lasting power, but the jelly-like consistency is quite annoying. Mine is #12 and it’s a very sheer glowy light, beige color, I could picure it suiting many skin tones. It does an amazing job at adding a subtle glow (not shimmer) to your face. A little goes a long way – even half a pump is too much! As well as using it as a normal highlighter I like to mix a bit into my foundations for a slightly less matte look, there’s no shimmer it just creates a slightly dewy look.
Chanel Soleil Tan Fluid Sunkissed
I absolutely love this beautiful highlighting fluid and it has become an essential to my beauty kit and my makeup regime. It only comes in one shade, Sunkissed, which is glimmery golden bronze that leaves the most beautiful glow behind. I apply it as a highlighter or I mix a little bit in with my foundation. The color is very sheer so I only use this as a highlighter as it would not show up as a bronzer. If I have to pick about something it’s the heavy frosted glass bottle it comes it, as I find the opening of the bottle can get a little messy, it is also a bit heavy and big for traveling. However for such a beautiful product, I can put up with it. Also, the glass bottle does a great job of keeping the product fresh, which is the most important thing. All in all this is a lovely product, the gorgeous color adds a lovely touch of sunkissed glow to add some dimension. Love it!
Benefit Moon Beam
This highlighter gives you a pretty glow – it’s not glittery at all but a powerful gleam. It has a beautiful golden hue with some pink and peach iridescence (Benefit calls that tone ‘apricot’). The base is fairly sheer if blended out, but the shimmer is definitely there. The bottle is small but lasts forever as you only need a tiny bit. I never brush this directly onto my cheeks, I use the brush to put a little it onto the back of my hand, and then use a finger tip to apply and blend. I like this highlighter but it’s just a bit too subtle for me, it doesn’t really give my complexion enough of a boost to be worth bothering with. This product would be good for someone who really wants something super subtle.
What about you guys, are you familiar with any of the highlighters mentioned above? What do you prefer, liquid or powder highlighters?
