Monday Beauty Tips #22: Summer-Ready Feet

by Hanne on May 14, 2012

Spring has sprung and before we know it, beach season is here. Your feet may have been trapped inside boots and woolly socks for months, but it’s time to get your toes ready for sandal season. If the thought of bearing your soles in public fills you with dread, you’re not alone. Winter’s chill takes a toll on just about everyone’s skin. Follow these steps for soft, sexy, summer-ready feet.

1. Peep and Soak
Start by removing any polish that you might be wearing on your toes. Next, soak your feet to soften skin and nails. Prepare a small basin filled with warm water, then add bath oil, bath salts or a foot soak which is formulated specifically to soften tired, rough feet.

2. Exfoliate
We often neglect our feet when it comes to exfoliating, but like any other area of your body, old skin needs to be sloughed away to stimulate cell turnover and make way for newer, softer skin. Use an exfoliating scrub to remove any rough patches that have accumulated over winter. A pumice stone or foot file can be used on extra-rough spots (heels, balls of feet).

3. Add a Mask
Who says masks are just for your face? Give your feet the perfect pre-summer pick-me-up with a revitalizing foot mask. Simply apply the mask to clean, dry feet, wrap them in plastic wrap or a towel, relax for 10 minutes and rinse off with warm water.

4. Cut, Trim and File
It’s a lot easier to cut nails, and especially your toenails, when they are damp. After soaking and exfoliating, cut your nails and then file the corners into rounded edges to smooth rough edges and prevent ingrown toenails, make sure you only file in one direction.Use a scrub brush to clean underneath the nails, and then gently buff them to prepare the nails for polish.

5. Moisturize
Winter causes skin to dry out so before you can declare yourself ready for sandal season you’re feet are going to need some serious post-winter hydration. Rather than just slapping some lotion on and calling it a day, this is also a good opportunity to massage feet to further pamper tired, over-worked extremities.

Now, pick a pretty shade of nail polish to show of your beautiful, soft summer-ready feet in a pair of sandals! :)

For the feet there’s one super system for exfoliation. I think to buy it : http://www.cosme-de.com/en/product/product_page.html?pdid=5083
I saw that on a blog by a french girl who lives in Japan : http://www.baladebeaute.com/2012/05/13/une-petite-partie-de-baby-foot/ and she says the effect is real.
Excuse me for my bad english, I’m french but if you can tell me what isn’t correct, I’ll be very happy.
Your post is very interesting. So Have a good day.

Haha! Arrey that’s the sad part of all this.

It’s just been about 2 yrs since I started with makeup and I already have a ton of stuff and I’m not even a beauty blogger.

And because of all the new stuff that comes out every minute, we can’t even fully enjoy what we already own. It’s pathetic ;)

My problem is that I really have hairy feet. And this really embarrasses me even in front of my boyfriend. I ask a dermatologist about it and she said that I probably have a large amount of man hormones in me that causing the fast growth of hair on my feet. How do I remedy this?

The exfoliate tips you gave has caught my attention. I noticed people are neglecting these parts.
In my scrutinizing eyes, when I meet up a person/group of people, my eyes would often times look at their hands or feet (if they are wearing slippers or barefoot) and I unconsciously judge them by the way they take care of those ones. I can’t help it though, It is important for me to see if a person really is hygienic. But these parts though does truly need to be taken care of.

Hi Linda,

That’s funny. I’ve started thinking more about that myself, especially after living in Brazil where everybody have nice nails and toes. :)
