Health Benefits of Coconut Oil

When I was in Brazil a friend told me about coconut oil and it’s health benefits. Apparently a big trend in Brazil right now (especially for weight loss) and after reading a bit about it I went and bought capsules with coconut oil. You’re supposed to take one or two capsules about 20-30 minutes before you eat your meal, 2-4 times a day. By mealtime, the coconut oil’s satiation effect will be in full force, reducing your appetite and increasing your metabolism. Now, I’m not really trying to loose weight – I’m happy with the way I am now – but I’m very interested in seeing if this really works.

The main component in coconut oil (almost 50 percent) is lauric acid which is a medium chain fatty acid and is considered responsible for many of its health benefits. The only other abundant source of lauric found in nature is in human breast milk. Coconut oil is not stored in your body like other fats, its medium-chain fatty acids are quickly broken down in the liver to dispense immediate energy. When your metabolism speeds up, your cells will also function with better efficiency, which may lead to injuries healing faster and boosting your immune system.

It only keeps getting better, coconut oil has been proven to have anti-cancer effects especially of the colon and breast. This is due to the oils protective nature and ability to safeguard the body from infection whilst cleansing your system. Researches also believe that coconut oil’s lauric acid is a potential anti-bacterial and anti-viral agent. It is also said to prevent heart disease and lower cholesterol.

Weight loss or not, coconut oil seems to provide a lot of great health benefits! I’ve only been taking my capsules for about a week now and will tell you more about my experiences in a couple of weeks!

Do you use coconut oil? Any experiences? :)

Hi Joanna :) Yes coconut is supposed to be great for the hair, also as a moisturizer apparently :) I’m not sure where do buy it in France, but they probably sell it at “health stores”? :) xx

The coconut capsules are available at a store by the name
of vitamin world located in the United States, unfortunately. Hope

When I travelled Thailand last year there were coconuts everywhere. The Thais call it “the free of life” because it has so many hair skin health benefits. It’s a wonderful and natural product. I lost a lot of weight eating coconut based soups and curries :)

That’s great to hear! Did you do a lot of exercise as well? I’m sure it will get more popular in Europe soon, it’s really a wonderful “product”. I think from now on it will be part of my daily diet! I’ll look for the pure oil as well! :)

In reply to your earlier comment regarding exercise- no very little exercise as I was on holiday. I think the coconut flushes out your system completely. Very beneficial natural product :)

I absolutely LOVE coco oil! I use it for my skin & hair. Once I read on the Internet that it was used against acne and indeed it works!! I only have got very very few pimples since I started using it (I had quite severe acne before). Also, it makes really good hair when used before a shampoo :)
However, I used to put it in my meals (When I heard that it was Miranda Kerr ‘s secret – most gorgeous girl ever – ^^) but I read that it was bad cause full of satured fats, or sthg like that so I stopped it. Here in France I’ve never heard about coco oil capsules though, but it seems quite interesting, plus I’m trying to lose a few pounds so.. why not ^^

I have to buy coconut oil for my skin and hair too, everybody tells me it’s great – and best part it’s 100% natural! :)
Apparently as coconut oil is a medium-chain saturated fat it’s considered a “good” fat for the diet. I’m not an expert on that area but that’s what I’ve been reading in a lot of articles lately! :)

Hi Hanne! Hope you’re doing great! I’ve read an interview of Miranda kerr (most beautiful skin a the world) and she said she eat four teaspoons per day of coconut oil, either into a cup of green tea, or salad or into her cooking. She also drink Noni juice since many years! I’m going to try those two beauty tips. She also launch a skincare range named Kora Organics, have you tried it? xoxo
